What is an Art Deco Building ?
Art Deco buildings are those built between 1910 and 1939, which have a distinct modern style. However, Art Deco is a broad ranging movement and had many influences, and the style also changed and developed over this period: this means there is no “typical” Art Deco buildings. Much of the architecture which fall into this category can be identified by the use of sleek lines, geometric shapes and stylized decoration. The use of innovative materials and design is also a key feature, although it is not essential.
ADSUK Preservation Committee
The ADSUK Preservation Committee has been formed in response to the continued need to advocate for the appreciation and preservation of the significance and value of buildings, structures and examples of Art Deco design across the United Kingdom which fall within the agreed scope of the Preservation Committee, in terms of their architectural design, form, details, materials, construction techniques, date and overall quality, so that they may continue to be enjoyed by present and future generations. The committee also serves to comply with the requirements of ICADS (International Coalition of Art Deco Societies). If you are interested in Art Deco architecture and buildings, and would like to support the committee, then send us an email at preservation@artdecosociety.uk. We would love to hear from you!

Our Mission
Our mission is to advocate for the recognition and preservation of buildings and design which celebrate and exemplify the Art Deco style and movement, dating from the 1920’s to the 1950’s. We will also consider later and contemporary adaptations of the Art Deco style, where appropriate
